Kumihimo Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese art form that dates back to the 13th century. It was performed only by Samurais, and was lost for a period of time before being rediscovered by Japanese artisans around the 1930s. Kumihimo, or Japanese braiding, is an intricate and beautiful art form that many people across the world have come to love and appreciate. At Oak Grove Studio, we use a round braid composed of eight strands.
